General translation

General translation refers to the translation of non-specialized texts that have no terminological or technical difficulties. The language used must also be clear and natural, without technical terms.

Most texts classified as general translation are journalistic texts, advertising texts, emails, letters, pamphlets, texts on tourism or gastronomy, news articles, travelogues, private or business letters and job applications, etc. In other words, texts of an informative nature that do not require the translator to have a high degree of specialization on a particular field of knowledge.

However, we select the most suitable translators for general translations; translators who have translated for the customer before, or who have a special preference for specific assignments.

Specialized translation

Specialized translation involves the translation of documents produced by technical writers (owner's manuals, user guides, etc.), or more specifically, texts which relate to specialized (technical, medical, etc) subject areas or texts which deal with the practical application to a specific field of knowledge. Specialized translation covers the translation of many kinds of specialized texts and requires a high level of subject knowledge and mastery of the relevant terminology and writing conventions.

The importance of consistent terminology in technical translation, for example in patents, as well as the highly formulaic and repetitive nature of technical writing makes computer-assisted translation using translation memories and terminology databases especially appropriate. In his book Technical Translation Jody Byrne argues that technical translation is closely related to technical communication and that it can benefit from research in this and other areas such as usability and cognitive psychology.

In addition to making texts with specialized jargon accessible to a wider ranging audience, specialized translation also involves linguistic features of translating specialized texts from one language to another.

Translation as a whole is a balance of art and science influenced by both theory and practice. Having knowledge of both the linguistic features as well as the aesthetic features of translation applies directly to the field of technical translation.

Sworn translation

Sworn translation is widely used for international trade, business, political-economic purposes, migration and tourism.

Sworn translation is an officially accepted translation of a legal document or any document that needs to be accepted in a legal situation, such as birth certificates, academic certificates or declarations. Sworn translations are always needed when a translation is to be used for administration purposes or to meet governmental requirements.

There are no fixed regulations regarding sworn translations, as the requirements are dependent upon the country in which they will be used, and therefore regulations can change based on the location. That is why we can also refer to this type of translation as certified, legal, public or official, depending on the process used for translating for the target country.

Literary Translation

Literary translation consists of the translation of poetry, plays, literary works, literary texts, as well as songs, rhymes, articles about literature, novels, short stories, poems, etc.
